In Yume Nikki, you play a young girl who can delve into a bizarre, and sometimes extremely frightening, dreamworld in order to collect “effects” that can alter her appearance in the dream. Some of the effects also have abilities that can be used there. At (almost) any time, our heroine can wake herself up and return to her small, spartan apartment, where she can write in her diary (save), or play a simple minigame on the television.

I'm not sure the actual game that will take place is worth the time, but if anyone else is interested in coming I'd definitely show up, mainly out of a general interest in the genre and Jane's work (she will be there).

For the first time in human history, ice is on course to disappear entirely from the North Pole this year. If it happens, it raises the prospect of the Arctic nations being able to exploit the valuable oil and mineral deposits below the sea bed which have until now been impossible to extract because of the thick sea ice above. –So that's good news, right? Delaying peak oil through global warming, hooray!

This intriguing site turns the lifestreaming model upside down, letting a person's lifestream be created not (just) by herself, but by anyone in a public wiki-like free-for-all.

In my (slightly premature) opinion, this is probably the best way to follow what people are up to on the web efficiently.
It has the potential to kill all "people search engines", will definitely kill the second-tier lifestreaming services, and could greatly damage FriendFeed, who are now just the best place to discuss everyone's shared items within your circle of friends. And with all the duplication, who's going to use both?
Disregarding all the drama that's sure to erupt because of privacy issues ("My public online data?! On the INTERTUBES?!"), it's also just smartly designed: super-fast, completely registration-free and with an open API.

As for its relationship to Soup, this just confirms my belief about our direction: While there's a tiny bit of an overlap in functionality, Soup's all about editorial control, identity, and rich multimedia rather than notification about events ("...has posted a photo, here's a thumbnail") – all quite the opposite of what they're doing.

Random thought: I bet the prevalence of satellite/aerial photos in mapping apps (especially as they spread to ever more mobile devices) will lead to more ads and signs on rooftops. Why would a store/bar/other commercial venue NOT want to paint a bright red logo on its roof?
I'd totally go into that business if I was a painter.
