What is it going to take for you to get the message that customers don't want the things that architecture astronauts just love to build. The people? They love twitter. And flickr and delicious and picasa and tripit and ebay and a million other fun things.
Joel on Software

Also applies to all the Semantic Web stuff that universities love to research and people love to award grants to.

Naturkost St. Josef - (4/5)

On my recent first visit, I ordered the lunch menu (which conveniently comes in two sizes). However, I couldn't tell you exactly what that consisted of: Organic somethingorother with a side dish of all-natural whatchamacallit. Despite not being able to identify my food, it was all good once I had figured out which parts were sweet and which savoury. The atmosphere is just great, and I'll be sure to return for some more delicious mystery food soon. Or maybe next time I'll ask what it is.

Researching international Red Cross websites: It's really amazing in how many different ways you can fuck up such a simple symbol as a 16x16 favicon.
The only good one I found among dozens of sites is the bottom right one, from the Austrian Red Cross's European soccer championship site.

Inspiration

Why are the most inspirational conversations always late at night over beer? That's the most inconvenient time there is to actually get stuff done or try things out: It's hard to turn that head full of ideas into something concrete when it's 2 a.m. and you're slightly drunk – and the next morning, the euphoria has worn off and regular work is on the schedule.

And I'm pretty sure it's not the alcohol that makes these discussions inspirational, getting drunk is just the socially established byproduct of random meetings: You just don't meet friends during the day for a random chat of all the things one could do. During working hours you're supposed to do stuff on your todo list, not get inspired by talking to non-coworkers without having an agenda for the meeting – even though that's where the best ideas originate.

I first noticed this years ago, and hoped the Metalab in Vienna would be a place to have such inspiring moments without it being night and everyone drinking. To an extent it is, but not nearly enough.

Any thoughts?

Was it nothing at all? This. Look at this. Was this nothing at all? Here it is again. What about this time? And this time? And this? ...

This is what lunatics do when they think people on television are sending them personalised messages. This is the nit-picking idiocy of 24-hour news TV.
